Last week the Conservatives introduced their 242-page Fair Elections Act, Bill C-23. Ostensibly in response to the robo-call, voter suppression scandals that marred the last election…critics say that the bill does nothing to prevent this…and in fact makes situtation even worse. CBC reports that the government’s proposed overhaul of the Elections Act includes elements that constitute an affront to democracy, according to Canada’s Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand.
